Cold Weather Care: Winter Storage and Heating Functions

Why cold changes everything

Below roughly 10 °C, both TPE and silicone lose elasticity. Cold skin feels firmer, takes fingerprints and — more importantly — tears far more easily when posed or stretched. Almost all winter damage is simply handling a doll that is still cold from the courier van or the storage room.

The safe warm-up

  • Let the doll reach room temperature for several hours before any posing — an electric blanket on low under a normal blanket is the gentle accelerator.
  • Never place a cold doll directly against a radiator or heater: surface hotspots age the material unevenly.
  • Warm water bottles wrapped in towels placed near (not against) the body speed things up safely.

Using the optional heating functions

Our configurator offers full-body constant-temperature heating (+$299) and local heating (+$130) on any body, alongside heating combos with the vibration functions. They are built for exactly this: a body-warm doll in a cold room, not a hot one.

  • Heating elements run at skin temperature, not sauna temperature — expect a warm-to-touch body, and expect it to take a while; thick material heats slowly by design.
  • The heating functions use a 220 V adapter. In regions with different mains, use an appropriate voltage converter rated for the adapter’s wattage — a cheap travel plug is not a converter.
  • First use of the season: check the cable and plug for damage before connecting, and never run heating under thick insulating blankets for hours.

Winter storage adjustments

Unheated rooms, garages and basements drop below the 10-25 °C storage window — see storage guide. Move the box to a heated interior room, keep it off cold floors, and if that is impossible, add extra blankets around (not on) the box and accept slower warm-up before use.

Winter handling rules

  • Posing sessions in cold rooms: shorter, slower, no deep stretches.
  • Clothing helps: a warm layer on the doll keeps surface temperature up — light colors, pre-washed (stain-prevention guide).
  • After outdoor transport (moving, travel), give the doll a full overnight warm-up before unpacking and posing.

One warm-up exception

TPE surface scratches react well to careful warm-air refinishing — that trick belongs to repairs, and cold weather is when it works best; the details are in repair guide.

Condensation: the invisible winter risk

Moving a cold doll into a warm room puts moisture on the skin exactly like a cold window pane — and damp skin under clothing is where surface problems start. After winter transport, wipe the doll down once it stops feeling cold, let it air-dry fully before dressing, and keep storage boxes away from exterior walls where temperature swings are largest. A small hygrometer in the storage room removes the guesswork: aim for the same 10-25 °C, moderate-humidity window year-round, and winter stops being a special risk at all.
